alpha-tubulin isotypes were revealed, these being encoded by four
functional genes. Two of them were mapped: the testicle-specific type in
chr 2q (GEM:02q/TUBA1) and the alpha-tubulin
with constitutive expression in various tissues, in chr 12. Another gene
(or pseudogene) is possibly located in chr 11 (GEM:11^/TUBAL). The gene for brain-specific
alpha-tubulin has not been mapped yet. Remaining TUBA-like sequences are
